QUIXOTIC strengthens its cybersecurity capabilities with INCIBE and Wayra

At the beginning of 2026, the European energy sector was once again shaken by a high-impact cybersecurity incident. Endesa and its subsidiary Energía XXI confirmed a large-scale cyberattack that reportedly compromised personal and financial data, including customer names, national ID numbers, contact details, contractual information and, in many cases, bank account identifiers (IBAN), according to multiple national and international sources.

The attacker claimed to have extracted more than 1 TB of data linked to approximately 20 million customers, and even attempted to negotiate the sale of this database on dark web forums.

The scale of the incident raised concerns not only among customers, but also across financial markets. Following confirmation of the breach, market reactions reflected growing investor uncertainty around the risks associated with cybersecurity incidents and their potential impact on trust, business continuity and corporate valuation within the energy sector.

These events underline a critical reality: in sectors such as energy, cybersecurity is no longer an optional “tech” feature, but a strategic requirement to protect sensitive data, ensure service continuity and maintain the confidence of customers, regulators and investors.

The INCIBE Emprende by Wayra program

INCIBE Emprende by Wayra is an acceleration program designed to support technology companies with an advanced cybersecurity focus. It combines the institutional and technical validation of INCIBE (Spain’s National Cybersecurity Institute)—a key public reference body within the European cybersecurity ecosystem—with the capabilities of Wayra, Telefónica’s open innovation platform, to connect startups with real-world industry challenges.

For QUIXOTIC, the value of this program goes well beyond traditional acceleration. It means working under demanding standards, validating architectural and security decisions with cybersecurity experts, and reinforcing an approach where security is embedded into the product by design. This comes at a time when, together with our ISO 27001 certification, we continue to consolidate a differentiated position within the energy technology landscape.

Our participation takes place in the acceleration phase and coincides with a key moment for the company: 2026 marks the beginning of a new stage of international growth, expanding our operations beyond Spain into other European markets, and progressively into Latin America, although specific countries and projects cannot yet be disclosed.

The program brings together startups with complementary approaches across cybersecurity, advanced analytics and applied artificial intelligence. Alongside QUIXOTIC, participants include ButterflAI, Glimmer, LUP, Mate – Meet new people IRL, Orga AI, Qubita Analytics, Zefi.ai and Zonder Solutions, creating a collaborative ecosystem that encourages knowledge exchange among companies operating in highly demanding operational environments.

What this acceleration means for the energy sector

QUIXOTIC’s selection for the INCIBE Emprende by Wayra cybersecurity acceleration program is also a clear signal of how the energy sector is evolving, and of the type of technology that is increasingly becoming essential.

Energy retailers and operators manage massive volumes of sensitive data, mission-critical systems and processes subject to growing regulatory pressure. In this context, cybersecurity is no longer treated as a technical add-on, but as a structural criterion in technology decision-making.

QUIXOTIC’s inclusion in this program reflects an approach aligned with this reality: a platform designed to operate in complex environments, where data security, system robustness, scalability and regulatory compliance are built into the architecture from the outset. This model enables not only operational efficiency, but also secure and sustainable growth.

Working within the program alongside organizations with international experience in critical infrastructures, such as Telefónica, provides a practical and proven perspective that is especially relevant for a sector that cannot afford improvisation when it comes to security.

In this sense, QUIXOTIC’s participation in the acceleration does more than strengthen our own technology—it anticipates the standard that the energy sector is beginning to demand from its technology partners: solutions that are secure by design, scalable by nature and aligned with real business challenges.

2026 as a technological turning point

QUIXOTIC’s participation in the acceleration program comes at a pivotal moment. 2026 represents a turning point in our technological evolution, both in terms of infrastructure and product strategy.

Throughout this year, we are reinforcing our long-term commitment to cybersecurity, incorporating standards and best practices developed in collaboration with INCIBE and embedding them directly into our technological architecture. This effort is supported by an expansion of our AWS infrastructure, increasing processing capacity, system stability and readiness for high-demand scenarios.

At the same time, we have evolved our platform to deliver a more efficient and coherent user experience, aligned with the operational needs of energy retailers and operators. The new interface introduces significant improvements, including a clearer and more intuitive design, more powerful and stable large-scale data processing, and a unified view of activity through bidirectional integration across sales, commercial agents and customer portals.

In addition, the introduction of more automated and collaborative workflows, including new AI-supported use cases, improves coordination across teams and reduces friction in critical processes.

The result is a technology platform designed not only to scale, but to do so in a secure, controlled and sustainable way, with a direct impact on service quality for our current customers and on our ability to support their growth throughout 2026 and beyond.

With focus, responsibility and a continuous improvement mindset driven by real operational impact, we continue to move forward to deliver technology solutions built for the present and future of the energy sector.
